- Cannibal & the Headhunters release their version of "Land of 1000 Dances" the opening "Nah"'s from this version would go on to inspire The Residents various cover versions.
March
- Lemme B. Good releases "Good Lovin'". It fails to chart. The Residents would go on to cover it in 1975 for their Third Reich 'n Roll album.
April
- The Olympics release their version of "Good Lovin'". It reaches #81 on the Charts.
June
- Bob Dylan releases "Maggie's Farm" The Group that would become The Residents cover it in 1971.
- James Brown releases "Papa's Got a Brand New Bag" The Residents would go on to cover it in 1974 for their Third Reich 'n Roll album.
- Shortly after this, the group that would become The Residents see James Brown in Concert, and help direct his tour bus out of Louisiana
- 2nd: Jim Knipfel is born.
- 6th: The Rolling Stones release "Satisfaction" The Residents would go on to record it for their 1976 single of the same name.
- 14th: The Beatles release "Bad Boy" The Residents would go on to sample this song on their 1977 track "Beyond The Valley Of A Day In The Life"
August
- 6th: The Beatles release the album "Help!" It contains two tracks The Residents would later sample on their 1977 song "Beyond The Valley Of A Day In The Life", "Tell Me What You See" & "Another Girl"
November
- The Seeds release "Pushin' Too Hard", which The Residents would go on to cover in 1975 as part of their "Third Reich 'n Roll" Album
December
- Nancy Sinatra releases These Boots Are Made for Walkin, which would later be parodied by The Residents in their 1974 album Meet The Residents.
- The Strangeloves release "I Want Candy" which The Residents would go on to cover in 1974 as part of their "Third Reich 'n Roll" Album
- Shadows of Knight release their version of Gloria. It peaks at #10 in the Charts and is likely the basis for The Residents 1975 cover version.
- 3rd: The Beatles release the album "Rubber Soul" It contains "Girl" & "In My Life" Two tracks that The Residents would go on to sample this song on their 1977 track "Beyond The Valley Of A Day In The Life"
- 17th: The Beatles' Third Christmas Record is released in the U.K, to British members of The Beatles fan club. U.S members who were expecting a Christmas record, failed to receive one. Despite this, The Residents sample it in their 1977 track "Beyond The Valley Of A Day In The Life"
