"Contemplation" is the fourth and final track from Act 2 of The Residents' 2025 "modern opera" Doctor Dark.
This track is mostly an instrumental piece serving to transition into the third act, or second half of the album, with a news report revealing that the teenager Mark has survived the suicide attempt that occurred at the end of Act 1, and is currently undergoing facial reconstruction surgery. It is also revealed that Dr. Anastasia Dark was released from prison.
"Contemplation" was one of a handful of tracks which premiered in advance of the release of the album, on Australian independent radio station 2BOB Radio on January 7th 2025. A demo of this track was released on the Doctor Dark's Demos album, exclusive to streaming services, later in 2025.

[TV ANNOUNCER] "In an unexpected aside to the sensationalized trial brought against The Greasy Weasels heavy metal rock band and their label, Barf Records, information has been revealed that one of the teenagers actually survived the gruesome suicide attempt. After a shotgun blast obliterated his jaw and much of his face, the young man was rushed to a hospital, where surgeons miraculously stopped the bleeding and reassembled his ravaged, wrecked and grotesquely mutilated face. Utilizing experimental micro-surgical techniques, titanium wire was employed to return bone fragments and flesh to a close approximation of their original positions. Claiming success after the 34-hour operation, the team said more surgery would undoubtedly be needed... In another story that has received a great deal of attention lately, Doctor Anastasia Dark, the notorious Russian-American physician known as The Suicide Czar, has been unexpectedly released from prison after his lawyer successfully argued that legal irregularities prevented the doctor from receiving a fair trial. The date for a new hearing is yet to be set."
