Freak Show Video Press Release

From RZWiki

The Freak Show Video Press Release is a short film created by The Residents, in collaboration with Jim Ludtke and John Sanborn.

Background

Following the completion and release of their 1990 album, Freak Show, The Residents met with established video artist John Sanborn and up and coming computer generated imagery artist Jim Ludtke. The Cryptic Corporation hired them, with assistance from The Residents, to create three videos using songs from Freak Show as a basis. Sanborn directed two live action segments based on Everyone Comes to The Freak Show and Nobody Laughs When They Leave, used to introduce and conclude the film. Ludkte on the other hand created a computer animated video for Harry The Head, used as the video's main feature.

Aside from the two directors, this video project saw The Residents' first direct collaboration with Leigh Barbier, who's distinctive visual style would become synonymous with The Residents in the late 1990s and onwards.

The VHS was sent to TV stations and critics alongside copies of their 1990 album Freak Show, but was later sold through The Residents' UWEB fan club.
