The Greasy Weasels was a short-lived Residents spin-off band, which was briefly developed in 1984 by The Residents' lead vocalist during a period where he had become "disenchanted" with the group's direction.[1]

It is said that The Greasy Weasels got as far as making a number of advance bookings for a mooted European tour, which was "abruptly cancelled" midway through 1984. It has been suggested that the failed spin-off project ultimately culminated in the release of The Residents' 1985 album The Big Bubble, after "the wayward singer" had been brought "back into the fold".[1]

The Greasy Weasels would, much later, make a notable appearance in The Residents' oeuvre; in the group's 2025 "modern opera" and concept album Doctor Dark, The Greasy Weasels appear as a fictional heavy metal band (on the label "Barf Records"), whose music is blamed for the attempted suicides of the opera's two protagonists, Maggot and Mark. During the release cycle for Doctor Dark, a t-shirt was made available through The Residents' online store which featured an AI-generated image of the fictional Greasy Weasels.

In 2021, another anonymous band named The Greasy Weasels provided musical backing for a Residents-inspired Dungeons & Dragons campaign named "Voices of the Air", which was streamed live via Twitch by the "improv-comedy roleplay" team ComeDy&D.[2]
