"White Guys with Guns" is the second track from Act 1 of The Residents' 2025 "modern opera" / concept album Doctor Dark. Like the rest of Act 1, "White Guys with Guns" is styled after heavy metal music, and the track describes the teenage Maggot's infatuation with firearms and the feelings of power and virility they bring to the white men who wield them. This infatuation is passed on to her impressionable best friend Mark.
This track was later edited, remixed and released to streaming services as a single. A rough demo of the track, recorded in 2022, was issued on a Cherry Red mailing list newsletter. A later, more developed demo was released on the Doctor Dark's Demos album, exclusive to streaming services.
Libretto
Frustrated by raging hormones and fascinated by fantasies of manly virtue, Maggot wallows in a glorified vision of virility - white guys with guns. Initially passive, the reluctant Mark is drawn into his friend's twisted heroic vision as they march around the room chanting their teenage anthem of angst.
I know that a gun will never hate me. I know that a gun will never blame me. I know that a gun will not betray me. Nothing but a gun will ever save me.

You can make a man out of a boring pissant with a pistol and a story, righteous in its anger and its glory; righteous in its fucked up need for more and more; righteous in its rage and in its roaring. Like an automatic pouring bullets into a body, lying on the floor and bleeding like an open sore the size of Texas.
Digital single
"White Guys with Guns (Single Edit)" (alternatively "White Guys with Guns (single)") is an edited version of The Residents' song "White Guys with Guns", released to streaming platforms as a digital single on April 25th 2025, in promotion of the album Doctor Dark.
