"Asonarose" is an instrumental by The Residents, recorded in summer 1974. It was the first track on their demo tape X Is For Xtra (A Conclusion); this demo contained some music intended for the group's feature film Vileness Fats (which was ultimately abandoned and left unfinished in 1976).

Apparently considered for inclusion on the group's 1978 release Not Available (which consists largely of music from the X Is For Xtra demo), "Asonarose" was ultimately first released in a slightly shortened edit as an uncredited introduction to the song "Never Known Questions" on the extended 2011 reissue of the album.

The complete instrumental was reissued separately (revealing its original title) in a new remaster by engineer Scott Colburn, on the second disc of the 2019 pREServed CD edition of Not Available (also titled "X Is For Xtra", largely a "RDX" mix of the original demo tape). Another mix is featured on the B-side of the limited edition white label single Not Available (Work in Progress), where it leads into "Ship's A'Going Down".
