"I Want Candy" is a song written and originally recorded by the Strangeloves in 1965 that reached No. 11 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. It is a famous example of a song that uses the Bo Diddley beat. It was covered in The Residents 1976 album "The Third Reich 'N' Roll" on the suite "Swastikas on Parade".
History
With this song being part of a suite it does not have a lot of unique history with the group. Like with all other song from this album it is a cover of the 1965 hit "I Want Candy". The Residents likely heard this song quite a bit as college students. With I Want Candy being a hit in 1965 its was a easy choice for their 3rd album The Third Reich 'n Roll. This song has never been performed live by the group as it is cut from all live version of "Swastikas on Parade". The song was included on "Groovy Greats RDX".
