New Mexico Dream
"New Mexico Dream" and "Available Piece" are two closely linked pieces by The Residents, recorded during the X Is For Xtra sessions between February and May 1974. The pieces eventually formed parts of the tracks "The Making of a Soul," "Never Known Questions" and "Epilogue" from their album Not Available, released October 9th 1978 by Ralph Records.
"Available Piece", an extended instrumental mix of a section heard in the aforementioned three Not Available tracks, was first released on the compilation album Beautiful Eyes in 2010.
In 2019, the expanded pREServed CD edition of Not Available was released, with a second disc of outtakes and "RDX" mixes from the original master tapes. The second disc included the track "New Mexico Dream", an alternate take of the Porcupine's monologue from "The Making of a Soul" with a previously unheard harp accompaniment.
The entirety of "Available Piece" can be faintly heard throughout "New Mexico Dream", indicating that the vocal and harp version of "New Mexico Dream" released to the public was extracted from an earlier mix of the recording that would become the instrumental "Available Piece".
Lyrics
New Mexico Dream
A huge easy cozy wants our kiss, our kiss to triumph But unbelievable admits Some questions, some questions Receive a guarantee to shake you up To shake you up, to shake you up Yes, I've got some questions that are guaranteed To shake you up How much marriage urges a windmill to pinch infinity? Is a magic hide-a-bed the final home of Spanish fire? Is firm corn merrier under gifts of less important love? We wonder. But fantasy moves ahead; For the iceman just took a turn for the better And a small object flies from his mouth; A daring jewel scales down the belted ear system And you have the modular optimistic silver original Welcome to the offshoots of Jupiter.
